No sé qué me inquieta más: que
miles de fanáticos mexicanos salgan al Ángel de la Independencia
a celebrar una derrota del equipo nacional de futbol o
que la celebración se convierta en disturbio violento en que los
fanáticos buscan desvestir y manosear a las mujeres y agreden
a la policía cuando ésta trata de intervenir.
México, claramente, es un país al que le cuesta mucho trabajo
tener triunfos. Estamos habituados a la derrota… y no sólo en el
campo deportivo. Quizá por eso nuestros festejos ante las victorias
y las derrotas son tan carentes de proporción.
México ha tenido hasta ahora el desempeño esperado en la
Copa del Mundo de futbol. Era lógico para el 17º equipo del mundo
terminar la primera ronda con una victoria, un empate y una derrota.
El orden de los factores no fue el esperado: pocos hubieran pensado
que el triunfo habría sido frente a Francia y la derrota ante Uruguay,
pero el futbol ofrece siempre ese tipo de sorpresas.
Si era previsible que la selección nacional pasara a octavos de
final en el segundo lugar del grupo A, era igualmente lógico que nos
tocara enfrentar inmediatamente después a Argentina.
Es muy probable que el Mundial concluya para México
este próximo domingo en el encuentro contra el equipo más
brillante de la primera etapa de la competencia. No hay en las
filas nacionales un Guardado que pueda rivalizar con Messi, ni
un Chicharito que rebase a Higuaín, ni un Cuauhtémoc que
pueda superar a Tévez. Los jugadores en la banca de Argentina
–Palermo, Milito, Agüero– serían suficientes para derrotar a la
selección nacional en casi cualquier día. Pero esto es algo que
muchos mexicanos se niegan a entender.
Los mexicanos queremos ver el futbol –y la vida económica-
- como batallas en las que se puede triunfar con buena voluntad
y la intervención milagrosa de la Virgen de Guadalupe. En la
derrota contra Uruguay del 22 de junio encontré en el Estadio
Real Bafokeng a varios mexicanos que con lágrimas en los ojos
me aseguraban que la derrota era producto de que el Vasco
Aguirre no había metido al Chicharito Hernández desde un
principio o de que no había querido sentar en la banca al Guille
Franco. Pocos quieren darse cuenta de que el proceso que permite
a un país, como Argentina, tener una escuadra vencedora
en cualquier Mundial es empezar desde muy temprano con la
preparación de jugadores infantiles y juveniles.
La derrota puede ser una gran maestra. Nos muestra nuestras
carencias y nos permite remediarlas. El problema es cuando
nos negamos a ver las lecciones y pretendemos seguir viviendo
en un mundo de mentiras.
Quizá si reaccionáramos de manera distinta a las derrotas
podríamos albergar otros sueños. Si nos sirvieran de incentivo
para construir canchas de futbol en las escuelas y organizar ligas
infantiles y juveniles en todo el país, podríamos construir equipos
nacionales más brillantes para las Copas del 2018 en adelante.
Mientras las victorias y las derrotas sean un simple pretexto
para salir a las calles, intoxicarse con alcohol, lanzar espuma a
la gente y tratar de desvestir y manosear a las mujeres que se
atrevan a ir al Ángel de la Independencia, seguiremos siendo el
país del nunca jamás.
Las lecciones del futbol son las mismas que aprendemos de
la economía global. De nada nos sirve ponernos el sombrero de
charro y gritar ¡Viva México!, o lamentar el trato que la Border
Patrol de Estados Unidos les da a los trabajadores mexicanos,
si no hacemos el esfuerzo para construir un país más próspero
que pueda dar trabajo y un mejor nivel de vida a los mexicanos
en su propia patria.

Notable la diferencia de las porras en el Estadio Real Bafokeng
de Rustenburgo el martes 22 de junio. Todos los cantos
y gritos de los fanáticos uruguayos eran para impulsar a su
equipo. Buena parte de las porras de los mexicanos, en cambio,
sólo buscaban insultar a los contrarios.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
