Segundo pecado: Dejar fuera a Sinha.
El jugador del Toluca nunca fue del agrado de Javier Aguirre, pues no se adaptaba a su sistema de juego, sin embargo, en un equipo en el que Cuauhtémoc Blanco y Adolfo Bautista tienen cabida, Sinha, de condiciones similares, también pudo haber sido incluido, máxime porque pasaba por un mejor momento que el ‘Cuau’ y ‘Bofo’. Fue también cuestionado y criticado que el reciente campeón del futbol mexicano y el equipo más redondo de los últimos diez años, Toluca, no aportara ningún elemento al seleccionado nacional.
Tercer pecado: ‘Bofo’ y ‘Venado’ van al Mundial
Al dar su lista pre mundialista, destacó la presencia de Adolfo Bautista y Alberto Medina, pues a pesar de que ambos tienen condiciones y talento para formar parte en el Tri, no pasaban por su mejor momento, sobre todo el ‘Bofo’, que no era titular con Chivas, mientras que el ‘Venado’ había demostrado que se achica en los momentos de presión con la selección mexicana.
Medina respondió a la confianza con goles en los juegos amistosos, aunque en el Mundial no jugó un solo minuto; en cambio, el ‘Bofo’ fue abucheado en el partido de despedida ante Chile y sólo logró anotarle goles a Gambia.
Cuarto pecado: Jonathan queda fuera
Si bien es cierto que el jugador del Barcelona Athletic aún no tiene la experiencia necesaria para disputar un Mundial, la forma en que salió de la selección no fue la mejor, pues su padre, Zizinho, explotó y aseguró que jamás volvería a vestir la camiseta del Tri; además, su hermano, Giovani, quedó afectado anímicamente.
El cuestionamiento a Aguirre fue, en este caso, apostar por la veteranía de Bautista y Blanco antes que por la juventud de Jonathan dos Santos. Finalmente, si no iba a ocupar a Medina ni a Bofo, llevar a Jona habría dado más cohesión a la base juvenil del seleccionado (que era mayoría) y dejado tranquilo a Gío en un momento en el que necesitaba mayor concentración.
Quinto pecado: Demasiados comerciales
Las bromas que más han golpeado a la selección son las que tienen que ver con los comerciales que realizaron tanto jugadores como el mismo Aguirre: por un lado el ‘haz goles, no sándwich’ se volvió clásico ante las continuas fallas de los delanteros mexicanos; además, el ‘pasar del México del sí se puede, al México del no se pudo y de ahí al México del ya ni modo’, fue una parodia al propio ‘Vasco’.
Sexto pecado: Su obsesión con el ‘Guille’
El momento por el que atravesaba Javier Hernández era exponencialmente mejor al de Guillermo Franco, sin embargo, Aguirre le dio la confianza al naturalizado por su mayor experiencia y por su capacidad para jugar como poste, algo que el ‘Chicharito’ no podía hacer por su menor peso y estatura.
En el juego ante Argentina apareció por fin Javier Hernández, sólo porque las críticas sobre el ‘Guille’ eran excesivas y porque él mismo había asegurado que a Messi sólo lo podían parar con un tiro. Aún así Franco jugó unos minutos ante Argentina, al relevar a Guardado al m.61 cuando el partido estaba 0-3 en contra.
Séptimo pecado: Andrés queda Guardado
Al convocar a los jugadores que militaban en equipos europeos aseguró que su nivel era mayor al foguearse en las mejores ligas del mundo, sin embargo, Andrés Guardado no tuvo cabida en la alineación titular, a pesar de ser el mexicano que más trascendencia tiene en su equipo, el Deportivo La Coruña.
En cambio, jugaron Vela y Franco, que con el Arsenal y West Ham, respectivamente, son comparsas, no referentes. Guardado inició como titular ante Uruguay y fue relevado al medio tiempo a pesar de ser el mejor hombre del Tri; ante Argentina también inició, pero poco pudo hacer.
Octavo pecado: Homenaje al ‘Cuau’ ante Uruguay
El duelo ante los charrúas era definitivo, porque se pudo haber evitado a Argentina, sin embargo, Cuauhtémoc Blanco entró como titular, cuando claramente su nivel físico no era el adecuado para enfrentar a la férrea defensa uruguaya.
